This gin-based Martinez-style cocktail was created by mixology master Ada Coleman.
“Coley,” as she was called, worked at the Savoy Hotel American Bar from 1903 until 1925. Her now-classic Hanky Panky cocktail was created for Sir Charles Hawtrey, a celebrated Georgian actor who asked for something with a bit of punch. After finishing the drink, he said, ‘By Jove! That is the real hanky-panky!’ and the name stuck.
